In a recent retrospective cohort study published in Diagnostics by Geskin, et al., the effects of lower limb revascularization on the microcirculation of the foot were assessed using multiple clinical tests.
Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) may provide unmet clinical utility as it can assess regional tissue hemodynamics and provide spatial information about microvascular tissue oxygenation and perfusion. Findings show that a synergistic assessment of both the macro and microvasculature provides a more complementary diagnostic evaluation for patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI).
