SnapshotNIR Used to Identify Patterns of StO2 in Wound Healing

In a retrospective study published in Wounds (October 2020), Adam Landsman, DPM, PHD, set out to identify if distinct patterns of tissue oxygen saturation (S_tO₂) in the wound and periwound tissues are associated with wound healing. Using near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), 25 patients with diabetic foot ulcers or venous leg ulcers were imaged throughout their course of therapy. Retrospectively, the images were analzed for common patterns in S_tO₂ that may predict whether or not a wound would heal.
