Interpretation of Near-Infrared Imaging in Acute and Chronic Wound Care

In this Diagnostics paper, published April 2021, Dr. Jonathan Arnold and Dr. Valerie L. Marmolejo discuss the interpretation of near-infrared imaging in acute and chronic wound care, featuring the innovative SnapshotNIR.

Vascular assessment is a critical component of wound care and the non-contact, handheld SnapshotNIR has fostered an increased use of near-infrared imaging in the outpatient setting given its portable, rapid assessment, and non-invasive nature.

Direct visualization of the area of interests in a wound care setting allows the provider to: determine the effects of factors that are known to delay wound healing; the impact revascularization plays directly on the wound; the adequacy of wound debridement; the proper timing of placement of biologics to aid in wound healing, and more critical data.

In this paper, Arnold and Marmolejo present multiple case studies where SnapshotNIR was utilized, including such therapies as debridement, HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy), and a human acellular dermal matrix application (biologics).
